I'm hearing Michael Carrick is staying at Man United for longer than people think

Keith Wyness believes Carrick will retain backing from United's hierarchy despite internal division, with the board backing him over players after the Bournemouth defeat.

Manchester United's hierarchy remain divided over Michael Carrick's long-term future as manager, according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness. The board confirmed this week that Carrick will remain in charge for the Chelsea fixture despite growing tension with the squad.

Wyness told Football Insider that while there is internal politicking at Old Trafford, Carrick is likely to receive backing from above rather than fall victim to player power. He noted that the club cannot overhaul its squad mid-season and that fans sided with Carrick following last weekend's loss to Bournemouth, a stance the hierarchy has also adopted.

Meanwhile, former United chief scout Mick Brown claimed the club has already made initial contact with Julian Nagelsmann as a potential successor, with the German manager seen as a long-term target despite Carrick's expected short-term reprieve.
