The horror run facing Manchester United after Michael Carrick gets sack reprieve

Carrick keeps his job after Monday talks but faces Chelsea, Roma, Villa, Liverpool and Sporting in the next five games.

Michael Carrick has been reprieved as Manchester United manager following internal discussions on Monday, despite the club's 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth last weekend. The decision came after significant speculation that he would be sacked, but the club has opted to give him more time.

Carrick's immediate challenge is daunting. Manchester United's next five fixtures pit them against three teams competing for top-four finishes and two Champions League matches. The run begins with a trip to Chelsea on Saturday, followed by a home Champions League game against third-placed Roma. Aston Villa, currently unbeaten in seven games, visit Old Trafford next, before Manchester United travel to Liverpool on November 22 and host Sporting in the Champions League on November 25.

The fixture list offers little respite, and the club's hierarchy is likely to reassess Carrick's position during the international break if results do not improve significantly.
