Sesko ruled out until January with shin injury

The 23-year-old striker will miss at least eight weeks with an impact shin injury sustained against Brighton in September.

Benjamin Sesko is ruled out until at least January with a shin injury, the club has confirmed. The Manchester United striker has not played since being substituted in the 66th minute of the Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton on 16 September. Multiple tests revealed the issue is an impact injury rather than shin splints, a problem that has troubled him since pre-season and caused him to miss the final three Premier League matches last May.

Sesko's absence is a significant blow to manager Michael Carrick, who has lost his only orthodox number nine during a difficult run of form. United are currently 16th in the Premier League with just one league win this season and have not won in any competition since 10 September. The striker will miss crucial fixtures including matches against Liverpool and Arsenal, plus at least three Champions League games.

Since joining from RB Leipzig for £73.7m in August 2025, Sesko has scored 14 goals in 38 appearances. His injury may force United to explore the transfer market in January, with the lack of an orthodox forward cited as a factor in their poor recent results.
