Carrick keeps Bruno Fernandes as captain despite criticism

Carrick confirmed Bruno Fernandes remains captain despite publicly criticizing the manager's tactics after Manchester United's Champions League loss to Como.

Michael Carrick addressed the media to discuss his future at Manchester United and his relationship with captain Bruno Fernandes following the midfielder's public criticism of the team's tactical approach in their Champions League defeat to Como.

Fernandes had been vocal about the tactics used in Italy, and speculation grew when he started on the bench for the subsequent Premier League match against Bournemouth. However, Carrick dismissed any suggestion of conflict, stating: "Bruno sets himself fully for the club, there are no problems at all. He has always been an important player for this group and he always will be. He leads this team and he will continue to do so."

Carrick himself remains in position despite media surprise at his continued tenure. The manager struck a measured tone about his role: "I'm here to do my job. I want the best for the team and I want us to do better. I don't need assurances from anyone. I understand what's asked of me, my responsibilities and what comes with it." Manchester United face Chelsea next after an eight-match winless run across all competitions.
