Will Harry Kane be knighted by King Charles III after Ballon d'Or win?

English MPs call for Kane to be knighted following his Ballon d'Or win; Kane says he's flattered but won't get ahead of himself.

Harry Kane won the Ballon d'Or on Monday night, becoming the first English player to claim the award since Michael Owen in 2001. The achievement has prompted several English MPs to call for Kane to be knighted by King Charles III, joining fellow footballers Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir David Beckham.

Labour MPs Rosena Allin-Khan and Clive Efford have publicly backed the idea. Allin-Khan told The Standard: "Harry Kane is an exceptional footballer and a wonderful role model for millions of young boys and girls who want to play this sport. I hope he will join the pantheon of English football knights." Efford added that Kane "should of course be knighted" when his career ends. Prime Minister Andy Burnham's office acknowledged Kane's contribution to English football but cautioned against anticipating the honours process.

Kane, speaking to Bild upon his return to Bayern Munich, responded with humility: "I certainly wouldn't say no, I really appreciate it. If it were to happen, it would be incredible and I'd be extremely proud. But I don't want to get too ahead of myself right now."
