Nuno Espírito Santo under threat at West Ham after poor start to the season

West Ham sit eighth in the Championship after losing 3-1 to West Brom; key figures at the club are growing impatient with Nuno despite expectations he would be given time.

Nuno Espírito Santo's position at West Ham is under increasing scrutiny after a disappointing start to their Championship campaign. The Hammers, expected to challenge for promotion after their Premier League relegation, have won just two of their last six games and currently sit eighth, four points below second-placed Swansea City. A 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, their second consecutive home loss, has intensified pressure on the manager, who faced supporter unrest during the match.

While Nuno is expected to be given time to turn things around, key figures at the club have become increasingly impatient. The 52-year-old was retained after last season's relegation largely due to backing from Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky, who became West Ham's largest shareholder in September with a 46% stake. Any decision on Nuno's future will be made collectively by the board, including interim CEO Karim Virani and director of recruitment Nils Koppen.

Despite assembling what the club believes is the Championship's strongest squad—including £22m signing Arne Engels from Celtic—West Ham have struggled to find consistency. Their strikers have managed just five league goals between them, while defensive issues have seen them concede first on six occasions.
