Lifeline for duo to save West Ham career after Nuno's sacking – He wanted them out

Adama Boiro and Edson Álvarez get a fresh chance under West Ham's new manager after Nuno Espírito Santo's sacking, having been frozen out by the Portuguese coach.

West Ham sacked manager Nuno Espírito Santo on Monday after the club's relegation from the Premier League to the Championship. Despite retaining Nuno for this season, results have been poor—the Hammers won just six of 13 Championship matches and sit eighth, four points behind second-placed Birmingham City.

Two players now have an opportunity to revive their West Ham careers. Left-back Adama Boiro, who joined on loan from Athletic Club Bilbao on deadline day, has made only one appearance (13 minutes in a 3-0 win over Derby County). Midfielder Edson Álvarez, who returned from a loan at Fenerbahçe, has featured just once this season in an EFL Cup match on August 8th and was left out of the squad by Nuno thereafter. Both players were reportedly targeted for departure in January.

With Nuno gone and Scott Parker reportedly favourite to replace him, Boiro and Álvarez now have the chance to impress the new coaching staff. If their situations do not improve under the new manager, a January transfer remains a possibility.
