Under-fire Celtic board break cover as Martin O'Neill also fronts up at supporters club grilling

Celtic board and manager Martin O'Neill faced a two-hour Q&A with supporters in Greenock, addressing concerns over transfers, communication and the manager's future.

Martin O'Neill joined Celtic's board for a two-hour grilling at the Greenock Supporters Club following the shock 2-0 weekend defeat to Falkirk. CEO Michael Nicholson, interim chairman Brian Wilson, CFO Chris McKay and other club officials attended the session.

Fans pressed the board on several key issues. O'Neill's contract status was clarified: he has a year remaining with an option to extend, described as "a continuing discussion". On transfer strategy, Nicholson expressed enthusiasm about January spending plans, while the board acknowledged the jury remains out on some recent signings, including Kasper Hogh following his club record move from Bodo/Glimt. Arne Engels and the search for a defensive midfielder were also discussed.

Communication between the club and supporters emerged as a recurring theme, with board members acknowledging they need to improve on this front. The board also addressed questions about their independence from owner Dermot Desmond, with both Nicholson and McKay denying they are "beholden" to him. One attendee noted the exchange was respectful and substantive, describing it as better than a typical AGM.
