"Painful, unpleasant situation" – Liverpool star doesn't want to leave Reds but being edged out

Mac Allister says Liverpool told him last season they wouldn't renew his contract, but hopes new management and investors could change their position.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that the club informed him last season they had no plans to extend his contract, a conversation he described as "painful and unpleasant." The 27-year-old Argentine, who still has 18 months remaining on his current deal, remains keen to stay at Anfield despite the setback.

Mac Allister noted that teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch were in similar contractual situations but Liverpool chose to renew their deals, highlighting a difference in treatment. However, he expressed optimism that circumstances could shift following recent changes at the club, including a new manager, sporting director, and incoming investors.

"I think it can always change," Mac Allister told Argentine journalist Gastón Edul. "Until the moment comes when my contract expires, anything can happen." He emphasized his happiness at Liverpool and his desire to remain, while acknowledging the financial logic behind the club's contract management approach.
