Pellegrini: "We must prove why we are in this position"

Pellegrini warns of Dortmund's threat ahead of Champions League clash and insists Betis must prove why they belong at this level.

former Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini held his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Borussia Dortmund, describing it as a significant fixture between two teams in good form. Pellegrini praised Dortmund's creative approach and expressed ambition for his side, stating they do not want to "live off memories" and are targeting nine points from their remaining group games.

The manager confirmed he will rotate his squad but stressed that replacements will perform at the same level as those they replace. He highlighted Antony as a key player and noted the importance of maintaining collective defensive shape against Dortmund's threats, particularly forward Serhou Guirassy. Pellegrini also reflected on a difficult week following the death of Jesús de Miguel, a fellow coach who died on a football pitch.

Defender Diego Llorente, who accompanied Pellegrini at the press conference, echoed the manager's motivation, saying the team must not relax but "accelerate" after their impressive European performances so far. Both emphasized the need to prove Betis belong at Champions League level.
