Matthias Jaissle must make Newcastle U-turn on Sean Steur, he has no choice

Opinion piece arguing Newcastle manager Jaissle should recall Dutch midfielder Steur to the starting XI after weeks on the bench.

A correspondent argues that Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle should bring Dutch midfielder Sean Steur back into the starting XI. Steur has been on the bench for several weeks, with his last start on 19 September. The piece contends that Newcastle's midfield has lacked consistency and that Steur's absence is increasingly difficult to justify given his performances when given opportunities. In his last start against Hull City, Steur created two chances, completed his only attempted dribble, and won three out of four ground duels in 66 minutes. When he came off the bench against Everton, Newcastle looked more in control with his 97 per cent passing accuracy. Steur ranks in the top 19.9th percentile among Premier League midfielders for chances created per 90 with 1.76, and covers 13 kilometres per 90. The writer suggests that recalling the 18-year-old could signal a turning point for Jaissle, who is under pressure at St James' Park with results and performances struggling.
