Man United legend's son hits out at fans over treatment of owners

Kasper Schmeichel says Glazer protests are affecting player performance, urging fans to back the team instead despite frustrations with ownership.

Kasper Schmeichel, son of former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, has called on fans to support the team rather than protest against the club's ownership, arguing that demonstrations are harming player performances.

Schmeichel acknowledged the frustration directed at the Glazer family, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, and executives Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox, but said the negativity is counterproductive. Speaking on BBC 5Live, he praised fans for staying through a poor first half against AS Roma on Tuesday and backing the team during their second-half comeback, which saw United overturn a two-goal deficit to win. He urged supporters to maintain that positivity for upcoming fixtures against Aston Villa and Liverpool.

"I completely get wanting to protest and all of that, but for the players, it just doesn't help," Schmeichel said. "If you want your team to do well, now it's about backing the team the same way." Tensions at Old Trafford have been high, with tennis balls thrown onto the pitch and derogatory chants directed at club officials during recent matches.
