Milan from heaven to hell: 'I can't defend my team'

Milan lost 2-0 at home to Ferencváros in the Europa League, their third midweek defeat in a row; Amorim says the team isn't ready to compete on two fronts.

AC Milan suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Ferencváros in the Europa League on Thursday, with Lenny Joseph scoring twice in the second half. The loss extends Milan's midweek struggles to three consecutive defeats, following capitulation at Bournemouth and a poor home loss to Bologna.

Manager Rúben Amorim was visibly frustrated after the match. "Normally I have enough to say to defend my team, but tonight I really can't," he told Sky Sport Italia. "We must be humble and try to understand what happened. We are not ready to play on two fronts. There are no excuses—I can't say anything. Maybe I made some mistakes in recent days." He added that the team lacked courage and that even the starting eleven should have won the match.

Milan sit 28th in the Europa League league phase standings, level with Jagiellonia Białystok. They face Olympiakos and Levski Sofia away, and Sunderland and Ararat-Armenia at home in their remaining group fixtures. In Serie A, they visit Genoa on Sunday before the international break.
