JJ Gabriel reaches agreement to join Real Madrid from Manchester United

Manchester United teenager JJ Gabriel has agreed to join Real Madrid after requesting to leave Old Trafford in September. The 16-year-old refused to train with the first team and requested his registration be cancelled, effectively seeking free agent status. Gabriel's representatives have formally informed all interested clubs—including Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain—that he will move to Madrid.

United will receive minimal compensation of around £300,000 under FIFA regulations for transfers involving minors. Gabriel is expected to sign a three-year contract worth £8.5 million with Real Madrid, the only club willing to meet those financial terms. He has been training in Spain for the last six weeks and recently secured an EU passport through Cypriot and Irish eligibility, which will facilitate the move.

The deal is at an advanced stage and could be completed as early as January, though it still requires FIFA approval. Gabriel joined United's academy at age 11 but rejected a scholarship offer that would have led to a professional contract when he turns 17 in October 2027.
