Carrick asks for "time and patience" to achieve success

Carrick says Manchester United need time and patience to rebuild after beating Roma 3-2, but remain 17th in the Premier League with seven games without a win.

Manchester United broke a nine-game winless run with a 3-2 victory over Roma on Tuesday, but manager Michael Carrick acknowledged the club remains in a critical situation in the Premier League. United have now gone seven league matches without a win and sit 17th with 7 points, level with Crystal Palace in the relegation zone.

Ahead of the next fixture against Unai Emery's side, Carrick spoke about the scale of the rebuild required. "Success requires time, and we don't like having to invest time, but you do need a period of time to build it," he said. "Look at our recent history, where we want to get to and what we want to achieve. It's not going to happen overnight."

Carrick, who played under Sir Alex Ferguson, drew on last season's improvement as evidence that recovery is possible. "Last season we showed great capacity to respond and improved a lot, and that proves it is possible," he said. "It takes time and patience, but we're all desperate to win matches and win them as quickly as possible."
