Michael Carrick makes bold Manchester United prediction amid Sir Alex Ferguson comparison

Carrick says it's 'possible' for United to return to Ferguson's glory years, drawing parallels to Ferguson's own difficult 1990 start before his FA Cup rescue.

Michael Carrick has declared it 'possible' for Manchester United to recapture the success of Sir Alex Ferguson's era, drawing comparisons between his own troubled start and Ferguson's in 1990.

Carrick, Ferguson's former midfielder, acknowledged the difficulty of building sustained success. United have endured their worst campaign start in 40 years, sitting 17th in the Premier League with just one win in ten games before Tuesday's 3-2 Champions League victory over Roma. Ferguson faced similar pressure in 1990 when United were 15th after a poor run, including a 5-1 defeat to Manchester City, before his FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest in January saved his job.

Carrick said: 'It's not impossible. Anything's possible. You've got to build. You've got to be realistic.' He stressed that success takes time and patience, noting that the game has evolved since Ferguson's era. United face Aston Villa next in the Premier League, with the club's hierarchy set to reassess Carrick's position during the November international break.
