Gavi also an option to replace Rodri

Gavi is among the midfield options Barcelona manager Flick could deploy following Rodri's injury, alongside Marc Bernal and Frenkie de Jong.

Rodri's injury has opened debate over who will fill the midfield vacancy at Barcelona under manager Hansi Flick. Marc Bernal, who has played the role in preseason and when Rodri rested, and Frenkie de Jong, recovering from a World Cup injury, are the leading candidates. However, Gavi is another option in the squad that deserves consideration, despite not being widely discussed for the upcoming match against Atlético.

Gavi proved his worth in the closing stages of last season after recovering from a knee injury. He started in demanding fixtures including the derby against Espanyol (playing as left winger), difficult away trips to Osasuna and Getafe, and the Clásico where Barcelona clinched the La Liga title mathematically against Real Madrid, playing as a centre midfielder. De Jong, by contrast, has not completed a full match or started since 22 February 2026, spending time injured and then easing back into action ahead of the World Cup. Gavi's recent form and availability make him a credible option for Flick to consider.
