Julián is fantastic, but I focus on my team

Flick deflected repeated questions about Julián Álvarez ahead of Atlético's visit, saying he focuses on his own squad and praised Raphinha's form and contract renewal.

Hansi Flick faced two questions about Julián Álvarez in his pre-match press conference before Barcelona's clash with Atlético Madrid, the Argentine forward's first meeting with the club that pursued him heavily in the summer transfer window. Álvarez had wanted to join Barcelona, but the move fell through, creating tension between the two clubs.

Flick attempted to move past the topic, appearing visibly uncomfortable with the repeated line of questioning. "Julián is a fantastic player, but he plays for Atlético and I have to focus on my team," he said in response to the first question. When pressed again, he added: "I don't talk about players from other teams. I focus on my players and I'm very happy with the team's situation. We have many options in attack. There's nothing more to say."

Flick did not compare Álvarez to his own centre-forward choice for the season, Raphinha, who has been repositioned to that role and is performing well. The manager praised the Brazilian's recent contract renewal: "There are no words for Raphinha. It's the best situation for the club and for him. I'm grateful for his renewal. He's a fantastic player, our captain, and very important to our club."
