United confirm Carrick ahead of Chelsea and Roma clashes; meeting with Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United backs Carrick despite recent defeats; manager meets with captain Bruno Fernandes to clear the air before Chelsea and Roma fixtures.

Manchester United has confirmed Michael Carrick will remain as manager ahead of Premier League matches against Chelsea (31 October, 13:30) and Champions League fixture against Roma (3 November, 21:00). The decision comes after defeats to Como (1-4) and Bournemouth (0-3) that had sparked speculation about his future.

According to BBC Sport, Carrick held a clarifying meeting with captain Bruno Fernandes on the day of the announcement. Fernandes had criticised the manager's tactical choices after the Como loss and was left on the bench against Bournemouth. Following the discussion, the playmaker is expected to return to the starting lineup against Chelsea.

While the club and supporters back Carrick, with fans directing criticism at the players, BBC Sport reports that Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann remain on standby as potential replacements should results not improve.
