Scholes slams Fernandes: "Unforgivable, I think he should go to Saudi Arabia"

Scholes criticised Fernandes' recent comments about manager Carrick after Como, calling them unforgivable and suggesting the midfielder should leave European football.

Paul Scholes has launched a scathing attack on Bruno Fernandes following the midfielder's public criticism of manager Michael Carrick in the aftermath of Manchester United's 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. Fernandes had questioned Carrick's tactical decisions after the match, prompting the former United midfielder to respond forcefully on his podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football.

Scholes described Fernandes' comments as "unforgivable" and questioned whether the Portuguese captain could be trusted by any club going forward. "How can Bruno Fernandes be considered reliable as captain of any team he goes to from now on?" Scholes said. He suggested Fernandes should leave European football entirely, implying a move to Saudi Arabia would be appropriate, in an indirect reference to Al-Hilal's rejected offer earlier in 2025.

Scholes added that no manager or coaching staff could trust Fernandes after the incident, despite a recent meeting between the player and Carrick. United have continued to back Carrick despite a heavy defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League.
