The Man Utd XI I would pick to save Michael Carrick – with Bruno Fernandes axed

Opinion piece arguing Carrick should drop Fernandes to the bench and deploy Tielemans in midfield for the Chelsea match.

A columnist argues that despite clear-the-air talks between Michael Carrick and Bruno Fernandes, former Manchester United manager should drop his captain for the upcoming Chelsea fixture. The piece contends that Fernandes' form this season—marked by poor work rate and minimal impact—does not justify his continued selection, citing his single good performance against Ipswich as insufficient evidence of a return to peak form. The columnist suggests Youri Tielemans should start in the playmaker role instead, with Fernandes relegated to the bench to send a message that actions, not words, determine selection. The piece also outlines a broader tactical vision for Carrick's XI, advocating for Matheus Cunha on the left, Amad on the right, and Bryan Mbeumo through the middle in attack, while suggesting Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt anchor the centre-back pairing and Harry Amass debuts at left-back to address defensive vulnerabilities.
