Inside a rollercoaster week at Manchester United - Carrick chats with players, Berrada and Wilcox

Carrick survived the sack after Bournemouth defeat and has held frank conversations with players and staff about turning around United's poor run.

Michael Carrick has been given more time to turn Manchester United around after a poor start to the season. The manager was under intense scrutiny following the heavy defeat to Bournemouth, with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox deliberating over his future on Monday. Word arrived Monday evening that a decision would not be communicated that night, and by Tuesday midday it was confirmed United had decided against sacking him.

Carrick spoke publicly for the first time since receiving his reprieve on Thursday, revealing that robust conversations have taken place at Carrington this week. "It's pretty clear. It's not always rosy and nice conversations between anyone, whether that's between me and the players, whether that's between me, Jason or Omar or the owners," he said. "It's the truth, it's the hard truth at times, and it's what we need to move forward."

The manager explained that coaching staff have sought opinions from dressing room leaders about the situation. Carrick also addressed the mixed reaction from supporters after the Bournemouth loss, emphasizing his solidarity with the players. "I'm right in there with them and there's no way that I'm separated from that," he said. "That's my group, they're my players and this is my football club, so we have to all be in it together."
