Michael Carrick given two-match deadline before losing Man United job

Henry Winter believes Carrick will be sacked after Man United's matches against Roma and Aston Villa, with the international break providing the optimal window for a managerial change.

Michael Carrick faces an uncertain future at Manchester United after a run of nine matches without a win — the club's worst streak since 1988. Following defeats to Bournemouth (3-0) and Chelsea (2-0), the board has kept him in place despite internal disagreement over potential replacements Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann.

Carrick is expected to manage Tuesday's Europa League tie against Roma and the subsequent Premier League match against Aston Villa before the November international break. talkSPORT's Henry Winter believes this represents a two-match deadline, with the international break providing the ideal moment for the club to make a managerial change. Winter noted that international breaks historically give boards time to arrange replacements and that media scrutiny from international camps — particularly from players like Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez — could accelerate the decision.

The squad's discipline has also become a concern, with Martinez sent off against Chelsea and Fernandes publicly criticizing Carrick's tactics before being dropped for the Bournemouth loss. Winter argued the underlying issues extend beyond the manager, pointing to summer recruitment failures and player performance rather than tactical failings.
