West Ham sack Nuno Espírito Santo as head coach with club eighth in Championship

West Ham sacked Nuno Espírito Santo after poor form left them eighth in the Championship, with the club targeting an immediate return to the Premier League.

West Ham have dismissed head coach Nuno Espírito Santo following a disappointing start to the Championship season. The club kept faith with Nuno after last season's Premier League relegation, but sacked him after a 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion left them eighth in the table.

Nuno took over from Graham Potter in September 2025 and had 33 games to prevent relegation, but struggled to implement his ideas. The club cited poor tactics, confusing team selections and unsuccessful signings as reasons for the change. Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also departed.

West Ham are determined to secure an immediate return to the top flight. They visit Cardiff City on Wednesday. Former TS Galaxy manager Scott Parker has been mentioned as a potential successor, though no clear favourite has emerged yet.
