De Jong's 300

De Jong reached 300 appearances for Barcelona in the Aston Villa match, marking a milestone after returning from World Cup injury.

Frenkie De Jong reached 300 appearances for Barcelona in the club's match against Aston Villa, a significant milestone for the Dutch midfielder. De Jong returned to action this season after suffering an injury at the World Cup, undergoing medical tests during preseason. Though he lost the captaincy, he remains an important squad member and has been gaining prominence since his return.

This is De Jong's seventh season at Barcelona since arriving from Ajax in summer 2019. He has won multiple trophies with the club, including a Copa del Rey in 2021 alongside Lionel Messi. Successive managers—Ronald Koeman, Xavi Hernández, and current coach Hansi Flick—have all expressed full confidence in his abilities. Koeman called him "an excellent wildcard," while Xavi described him as "a complete footballer for modern football." Flick recently stated: "When he's at 100%, he's an incredible player."

De Jong's teammates also hold him in high regard, with players like Gavi and Pedri highlighting his importance to the team. De Jong is now Barcelona's most-capped Dutch player, surpassing Ronald Koeman (264 appearances) and Wim Cocu (292). Following his return, he has played in multiple positions—midfield and centre-back—but emphasized his preference for midfield. With Rodri sidelined, De Jong is expected to play a key role in Barcelona's midfield.
