Man United get instant response after 'contacting' World Cup-winner to replace Michael Carrick

United have approached former France manager Didier Deschamps as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick, though Deschamps reportedly has little appetite for the role.

Manchester United have made contact with Didier Deschamps, the former France national team manager, as a contingency option should they decide to dismiss Michael Carrick. The approach comes as INEOS decision-makers explore the managerial market ahead of the November international break.

Carrick's position has been under scrutiny following a nine-game winless run, though a 3-2 Champions League comeback victory over Roma on Tuesday has provided some respite. United sit 17th in the Premier League with just one win from nine games.

According to Foot Mercato, Deschamps holds little enthusiasm for the Old Trafford role and is in no hurry to return to club management, preferring to wait until next summer. The 58-year-old, who won the 2018 World Cup with France and has been without a club since departing the national team role, has also been linked with Juventus. United have also made informal approaches to Julian Nagelsmann and Unai Emery, though Emery is understood to be close to signing a new deal with Aston Villa.
