'Just to make it clear...' - Expert: Unai Emery agreement 'unlikely' to stop Aston Villa exit

Expert warns that Emery's new contract won't rule out a future exit, though departure is unlikely in the immediate term; any move would trigger a significant compensation fee.

Former Aston Villa scout Mick Brown has cautioned that while Unai Emery signing a new contract extension would commit him to the club in the short term, it would not completely prevent a departure further down the line. Brown explained that contracts can be broken and paid out, but a new deal would significantly increase any compensation fee a club would need to pay to acquire Emery, potentially deterring suitors.

Emery has been linked with top positions at Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United in recent months, though he has shown no genuine interest in leaving Villa Park. Villa opened contract talks with Emery on 27 October to deter speculation about a move to Old Trafford. Brown stressed that in the immediate future, Emery has no intention of departing and remains fully committed to his project at Aston Villa, where recent strong Premier League form has boosted optimism. His current deal runs until 2029.
