Emery close to agreeing new Aston Villa contract

Emery held talks with Villa's hierarchy on Wednesday; all parties keen to extend his deal beyond the current 2029 expiry, with announcement expected once details are finalised.

Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery is close to agreeing a contract extension that will extend his commitment beyond 2029 and give him greater responsibility for the club's long-term development.

Emery held talks with the club hierarchy on Wednesday to discuss Villa's future. The discussions focused on jointly planning the club's long-term strategic direction, with all parties establishing a clear commitment for the joint development of the club under Emery's sporting leadership. Talks are ongoing about the fine details, finances, and length of the new deal.

The plan is to announce the new contract once all details have been agreed, which is unlikely to happen before the weekend. Emery, who joined Villa in 2022 from Villarreal, has transformed the side from a relegation-threatened group to one qualifying for European football every season. He celebrated four years at the club last month and led Villa to win the Europa League in May — their first major trophy in 30 years.
