Lacey and Man Utd's next generation can rescue Carrick

The 19-year-old academy graduate, who joined United's youth system at age eight, demonstrated the confidence, vision and quality that have long marked him out as a prospect.

Carick has been impressed by Lacey's dedication since bringing him into first-team training last season. The winger has worked extensively in the gym and on the training pitch to prepare for senior football, regularly staying behind for extra sessions with coaching staff and senior players. His performance against Roma, combined with United's injury problems in attack—Benjamin Sesko and Marcus Rashford both sidelined, Amad Diallo short of confidence—suggests Lacey should start Sunday's match against Aston Villa.

Lacey's breakthrough is part of a broader shift toward youth at Old Trafford.
