Deep tribute to De Miguel: shirts, silence and prolonged applause

Sevilla and Alavés honoured deceased Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel with a minute's silence, applause, and a tribute at the 9th minute—his shirt number.

Sevilla and Alavés paid tribute to Jesús de Miguel, the Tenerife forward who recently died, in Friday's La Liga match at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Players and referees took to the pitch together wearing a shirt in his honour and carrying flowers in Tenerife's colours. After the national anthem, a minute's silence was observed, followed by prolonged applause from the stadium.

A second tribute came at the 9th minute—De Miguel's shirt number at Tenerife. The referee stopped play after a foul, and a video remembrance of the Madrid-born player was shown on the giant screens while the crowd applauded. This was the first top-flight or second-division match played since his death; Copa del Rey fixtures scheduled for 3–4 November were postponed, as was Friday's Castellón–Eibar match in the second division, where De Miguel had also played.
