Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital after collapsing at the club's training ground last Friday. The 40-year-old Belgian was taken ill during a second-team training session and has been diagnosed with meningeal irritation, an inflammation of the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Kompany missed Bayern's Bundesliga match against Freiburg and their DFB Cup tie with Magdeburg while receiving treatment. According to Bayern board member Max Eberl, Kompany is "doing well, given the circumstances" and will now rest and take medication at home. Eberl expressed confidence that Kompany will return to the touchline "operating at 100 percent, very soon," though no specific timeline has been announced.

Assistant coach Aaron Danks will take charge of Saturday's Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund in Kompany's absence.
