Why Michael Carrick has brought Bruno Fernandes back into Manchester United team vs Chelsea

Fernandes returns to the starting XI after being dropped last weekend following a dispute with Carrick over tactics; the pair held clear-the-air talks on Tuesday.

Bruno Fernandes has been recalled to Manchester United's starting line-up for the trip to Chelsea after being dropped for last weekend's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. The captain had criticised manager Michael Carrick's tactics following the Champions League loss to Como, leading to his omission from the squad entirely.

Carrick faced potential dismissal after the Bournemouth result but retained his position following crisis talks. The manager and Fernandes then met on Tuesday to resolve their differences, with Carrick confirming in his pre-match press conference that the issues had been resolved.

In his MUTV interview, Carrick praised Fernandes' importance to the team, saying: "He's a big player, Bruno, he offers us so much, you know, with his experience. He's been through a lot here and achieved a lot and shown what he can bring to the team." Carrick also discussed the threat posed by Chelsea's Matheus Cunha, who scored the winner at Stamford Bridge last season.
