Simeone equals Aragonés' historic La Liga wins record

Simeone equalled Luis Aragonés' all-time record of 344 La Liga wins across all clubs, achieving it in 192 fewer matches.

Diego Simeone matched Luis Aragonés' historic record of 344 victories in La Liga on Saturday, becoming the joint-most successful manager in the competition's history across all clubs. Aragonés accumulated his wins over 757 matches across eight different teams including Barcelona, Betis, Espanyol, Mallorca, Sevilla, Valencia and Oviedo, as well as Atlético Madrid. Simeone has achieved the same tally in just 565 matches, all with Atlético Madrid, where he has won two league titles (2013-14 and 2020-21) and remains the only manager to beat both Barcelona and Real Madrid to the title in the last 20 years.

The milestone victory came at Levante on Saturday, with Atlético winning 2-0. Alejandro Grimaldo opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a powerful strike, and Giuliano Simeone added the second an hour in, both assisted by Álex Baena. Simeone's first win as Atlético manager came on 15 January 2012, a 3-0 victory over Villarreal at the Vicente Calderón, with goals from Radamel Falcao (twice) and Diego Ribas. Only Koke remains from that original squad.
