Napoli's frustration boiled over after a 2-0 defeat to FC Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday, with the Italian club managing just 14 points from their opening 10 Serie A matches and winning only once in Europe.

Matteo Politano was vocal in his criticism after the match, saying the team's mentality was unacceptable at their level. "The attitude we showed, a team like ours simply cannot afford at this level," he said. He also called out the lack of accountability beyond the Italian players in the squad, though he clarified he was not attacking anyone personally. "We are in a difficult phase as a group, but we must close ranks and focus on the next match."

Rasmus Højlund echoed the sentiment, saying everyone—players and the entire club—needed to take responsibility. Manager Massimiliano Allegri acknowledged defensive errors from set pieces and attributed the second-half collapse to fatigue, noting the squad's limitations mean players cannot sustain intensity over multiple matches in quick succession. Napoli face Lazio on Sunday before the international break, with Allegri hoping to have more players available when the season truly begins.
